Placenta Previa

Placenta previa is a condition in pregnancy where the placenta lies low in the uterus and partially or completely covers the cervix, which can lead to severe bleeding during pregnancy and delivery. It requires careful monitoring and management to ensure the safety of both the mother and baby.

Types of Placenta Previa:

1. Complete Placenta Previa:

   • Definition: The placenta entirely covers the cervical opening.
   • Implications: This type often requires a cesarean section (C-section) for delivery, as vaginal delivery would pose significant risks of severe bleeding.

2. Partial and Marginal Placenta Previa:

   • Partial Previa: The placenta partially covers the cervix.
   • Marginal Previa: The edge of the placenta is near the cervical opening but does not cover it.
   • Implications: Depending on the degree of coverage and the presence of symptoms such as bleeding, a trial of labor might be possible, but a C-section is often recommended.
