Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

What is Diagnostic Hysteroscopy?

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the inside of the uterus to diagnose and evaluate various gynecological conditions. This procedure involves the insertion of a hysteroscope—a thin, lighted tube with a camera—through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. The hysteroscope transmits images to a monitor, allowing the gynecologist to inspect the uterine lining and identify any abnormalities.

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used to investigate symptoms such as abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, and pelvic pain. It can help diagnose conditions such as:

  • Uterine fibroids
  • Polyps
  • Adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome)
  • Congenital uterine abnormalities
  • Endometrial hyperplasia or cancer
