Advanced Endometriosis

Advanced endometriosis is a severe form of endometriosis where extensive tissue similar to the endometrium grows outside the uterus, involving multiple pelvic organs and sometimes other areas outside the pelvis. This condition is characterized by deep infiltrating endometriosis, large endometriomas (ovarian cysts filled with blood), and extensive scar tissue (adhesions) that can cause organs to stick together. Symptoms of advanced endometriosis can be debilitating and include severe pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, pain during intercourse, bowel and urinary symptoms, and infertility. Management of advanced endometriosis often requires a combination of treatments, including pain management, hormonal therapies to reduce or eliminate menstruation, and surgical procedures to remove endometrial tissue and adhesions. Multidisciplinary care involving gynecologists, pain specialists, and fertility experts is often necessary to address the complex symptoms and improve the quality of life for those affected by this condition.
